Dmytro Chystiak is a Ukrainian-speaking and French-speaking poet, short story writer, literary critic, university scholar and journalist. He is Professor at the National Taras Shevchenko Kyiv University, PhD (a thesis on ancient myths in Maeterlinck’s dramas), literary translator, head of the department of French studies of the scientific review Mova ta istoria, editor in “Raduga” and “Summit-Knyga” publishing houses. He published 40 books (philological works, poetry, short stories, translations, essays, literary translations) that brought him some national and international prizes in Ukraine (Prize of the Ukrainian Government, 2012; International Gogol Prize, 2013), France (International Prize for young authors, PIJA, in 2008), Belgium (Kraainem Prize for novella in 2009), Germany (Prize Oles Honchar in 2008), Kosovo (Mother Theresa Prize, 2013), Romania (Mihai Eminescu Prize in 2017) etc. He translated a lot of French-speaking and Slavonic authors (Maeterlinck, Yourcenar, Bonnefoy, Perrier, Mozetič etc.) that brought him the Prize for translation by the Federation Wallonia-Brussels for the “diffusion of Belgian literature abroad” (2012) and the most important translation prize in Ukraine, Maxym Rylskyi Prize (2013). He also translated a lot of writers from Ukrainian and Russian into French. Dmytro Chystiak has more then 300 publications (scientific articles, literary critics, poetry, prose, translations) in Albania, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland etc. Member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, of the French-speaking branch of PEN-club of Belgium, of the European Association of Journalists, of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters (Paris), of the Mediterranean Academy (Macedonia), Slavonic Academy of Arts and Letters (Bulgaria) and he is member correspondent of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine.
