G<\/span><\/span>ermain Droogenbroodt<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> was born<\/span><\/span> in Belgium but lives already 31 years in Spain. He is an internationally appreciated poet, translator, publisher and promoter of international poetry. He <\/span><\/span><\/a><\/a>w<\/span><\/span>rote short stories and literary reviews, but <\/span><\/span>now<\/span><\/span>poetry, so <\/span><\/span>far <\/span><\/span>thirteen<\/span><\/span> books<\/span><\/span>, published in 2<\/span><\/span>9<\/span><\/span> countries<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> He<\/span><\/span>translated \u2013 he speaks six languages – more than thirty collections of <\/span><\/span>German, <\/span><\/span>Italian, Spanish, <\/span><\/span>Latin American, <\/span><\/span>English and French poetry<\/span><\/span> and rendered Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Persian and Korean poetry into Dutch.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As founder and editor of <\/span><\/span>the Belgian publishing house <\/span><\/span>POINT Editions (<\/span><\/span>PO<\/span><\/span>etry <\/span><\/span>INT<\/span><\/span>ernational) he published more than eighty collections of mainly modern, international poetry. In 1996 he set up a new poetic movement, called <\/span><\/span>neo-sensacionismo<\/span><\/span> with the famous Chinese poets Bei Dao and Duo Duo<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Germain Droogenbroodt organised and co-organised several international poetry festivals in Spain<\/span><\/span>, is also<\/span><\/span> vice president of the <\/span><\/span>Academy Mihai Eminescu, <\/span><\/span>co-founder and advisor of JUNPA (<\/span><\/span>Japan Universal Poets Association)<\/span><\/span>, artistic <\/span><\/span>advisor<\/span><\/span>of the <\/span><\/span>Ital<\/span><\/span>i<\/span><\/span>an movement <\/span><\/span>Poetry & Discovery, <\/span><\/span>and founding president of the Spanish cultural foundation ITHACA.<\/span><\/span> He also collaborates with the Italian poetry publication Margu<\/span><\/span>t<\/span><\/span>te.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His poetic oeuvre is many-sided<\/span><\/span>, but having visited the Far East more than 60 times and <\/span><\/span>being <\/span><\/span>a great admirer of Chinese philosophy, his poetry has become very philosophic, making a start with his poetry <\/span><\/span>cycle \u201c<\/span><\/span>The Road<\/span><\/span>\u201d, (<\/span><\/span>translated into Chinese by Bei Dao as <\/span><\/span>TAO) a poetic bridge between the East and the West, inspiring <\/span><\/span>important painters, such as the <\/span><\/span>great <\/span><\/span>Indian <\/span><\/span>artist <\/span><\/span>Satish Gupta, who illustrated 5 of his books<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His poetry, considered Taoist and ZEN has <\/span><\/span>also <\/span><\/span>been published in <\/span><\/span>Chinese in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. <\/span><\/span>G<\/span><\/span>ermain Droogenbroodt is <\/span><\/span>yearly <\/span><\/span>invited <\/span><\/span>to give recitals and conferences <\/span><\/span>around the globe. <\/span><\/span>In China he was invited <\/span><\/span>at the Qinghai Lake Poetry Festival, guest of the Shanghai Writers\u2019 Association, <\/span><\/span>guest of honour <\/span><\/span>in 2018 <\/span><\/span>at the Wu<\/span><\/span>x<\/span><\/span>i <\/span><\/span>YiJing<\/span><\/span>conference<\/span><\/span> and at the 2<\/span><\/span>nd<\/span><\/span> Shanghai International Poetry Festival. He was n<\/span><\/span>ominated for the No<\/span><\/span>bel<\/span><\/span> prize of Literature <\/span><\/span>in <\/span><\/span>2017<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Already 571 weeks I select a nice poem from all over the world with a corresponding illustration, originally for a Dutch magazine, but meanwhile published at an English, Kurdish and several Romanian magazines and websites in Italian, Japanese, Hebrew, Malay and by Point Editions weekly in English, Spanish and Dutch:

Being myself a poet whose poetry collections have been published so far in 29 countries and since 1984 founder-publisher of POINT Editions, publishing international poetry, several translators of my poetry offered to translate the \u201cPoem of the Week\u201d in their language and mail the poems to their friends\/contacts. Translated and published in 21 languages, the Poem of the Week is sent to more than 14.000 readers all over the world in Arab, Chinese, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Kurdish, Macedonian, Malaysian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Sicilian\u2026We probably have weekly between 50-60.000 readers worldwide.<\/p>\n

The idea of the Poem of the Week is to offer our readers every week a short poem<\/strong>: a piece of beauty. Totally free of charge and without commercial publicity.
