Poet, Professor Emeritus at Hyupsung University.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>She earned Ph.D(English literature) from Korea University, Korea.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>She was Dean of Graduate School, Hyupsung Univ. and Visiting Scholar at UCLA.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>She received insignia from Vietnam Writers\u2019s Association for the cause of Vietnam\u2019s Literature and Arts in 2019.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>She earned Hongjae(Pseudonym of the 22<sup>nd<\/sup> King of Chosun Dynasty) Literary Grand Prize(2018) and Suwon Literary Prize(2018).\u00a0<\/strong><strong>She is writing the \u2018Kim Kooseul Column\u2019 for Kyunggi Newspaper and contributing English Translation of Korean Poetry to the quarterly <em>Suwon Literature<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>She is <\/strong><strong>Chair, Review Committee of Changwon KC International Literary Prize and <\/strong><strong>Vice Chair Organizing Committee of Changwon KC International Literary Prize. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>She is Advisor, Society of East-west Comparative Literature, Vice President, Society of East \u2013west Comparative Literature, Advisor, T.S. Bradley.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong>Her poems have been translated into many languages, including English and\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Japanese.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Life is,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking at those remaining alive<br \/>\nWithout looking away from life<br \/>\nAt every turn of life<\/p>\n<p>Throwing a question only once<br \/>\nAt the moment of death<\/p>\n<p>Life is,<br \/>\nStaring at myself serenely<br \/>\nAs I did when I first looked at the world<br \/>\nHolding another I close<br \/>\nTo my heart.<\/p>\n<p>Having me realize the innermost recess of the soul.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Snow Flowers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Belated spring-snow falling on early plum blossoms<br \/>\nEach story hangs on each snow flower<br \/>\nSome flowers make an ecstatic flower path toward the sky<br \/>\nOthers, hovering in the air<br \/>\nFall on the ground after all, never to fly<\/p>\n<p>Each heart seeing flowers<br \/>\nWinds up a wound tightly<br \/>\nThe debris of a wound only flutter around<br \/>\nFrom snow flowers cherishing a wish in vain<\/p>\n<p>Abruptly,<br \/>\nA flower palanquin crosses a ridge in the waxing moon sky<br \/>\nThe path of sad songs is filled with dances without pain<br \/>\nA tedious time holds its breath in the empty heart<br \/>\nSilence staring into an instant<br \/>\nIs white and deep<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing Poetry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Writing poetry,<br \/>\nIs gazing at<br \/>\nThe innermost scar,<br \/>\nStaring at the closure<br \/>\nCautiously unwrapping<br \/>\nThe bandage tightly wrapped<\/p>\n<p>. . . . .<\/p>\n<p>Secretly looking into the scar over and over again<br \/>\nThat no one can see<br \/>\nIs something brave and glorious<br \/>\nAs it means looking into the heart of pain<br \/>\nThough knowing it hurts.<br \/>\nAs a poet said<br \/>\nPoetry is pain and glory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moderation of the Laundry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seeming to fly in the wind<br \/>\nSeeming to go up to the cloud<br \/>\nThe thing, still enduring to the end,<br \/>\nKeeps the risky borderline<\/p>\n<p>The sunnier it gets<br \/>\nThe harder it blows<br \/>\nThe thing,<br \/>\nThe stronger its resistance<\/p>\n<p>Hung with the small clothespins,<br \/>\nThe thing,<br \/>\nNeither attachment nor self-indulgence<br \/>\nKeeps moderation<\/p>\n<p>With the pole set in the ground,<br \/>\nThe thing, after flying into the air<br \/>\nToward the sun, to the cloud<br \/>\nEventually coming down to the earth<br \/>\nKnows its place<\/p>\n<p>Helping to keep the laundry in balance,<br \/>\nNeither a clothesline nor a clothespin,<br \/>\nIs moderation and tension<br \/>\nAmong the wash, the clothesline and the clothespin<br \/>\nConsidered harder<br \/>\nThan standing on the sharp blade<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>An End of Life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Living<br \/>\nIs straying out of the center,<br \/>\nThough running all the way<br \/>\nStriving not to lose the middle way<br \/>\nStaring compulsively at the middle,<br \/>\nLooking back,<br \/>\nI am always straying in the wrong way<\/p>\n<p>Living<br \/>\nIs evading the truth,<br \/>\nWavering between the attraction and fear<br \/>\nEscaping the encounter with the self<br \/>\nLying unconsciously<br \/>\nIt is a way irrevocable<\/p>\n<p>On the way without way without warmth<br \/>\nStares<br \/>\nFaraway<br \/>\nA leaden silence<br \/>\nFaltering to find its own way<br \/>\nAt an end of life irreparable.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kooseul Kim (\uae40\uad6c\uc2ac), South Korea Kooseul Kim.
